The Alabama Wildlife Federation- AWF has been working with wildlife in the state of Alabama since 1935.

AWF Mission-

The Mission of the AWF is to promote the conservation of Alabama's wildlife and related natural resources, as a basis for the social and economic prosperity of present and future generations, through wise use and responsible stewardship of our wildlife, forests, fish, soils, water, and air.

AWF Membership-

The Alabama Wildlife Federation gets its strength from its members and their support. All AWF Memberships include a subscription to Alabama Wildlife magazine, an official AWF front license plate, AWF lapel pin, AWF decal, notification of special events, volunteer opportunities and an AWF Membership Card.

AWF Programs-

  • The Discovering Our Heritage (DOH) program acts as the vehicle that educators can use to integrate existing environmental education programs into one comprehensive course of study.
  • The Alabama Outdoor Classroom program provides on-site, technical assistance and support to educators, administrators, students, and community members who wish to create a viable outdoor classroom and schoolyard wildlife habitat on their school grounds.
  • William R. Ireland, Sr. Youth Wildlife Art Contest (and Federal Junior Duck Stamp Contest Partnership) The Alabama Wildlife Federation partners with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge and the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources to promote the AWF's Ireland Youth Wildlife Art Contest and the USFWS's Federal Junior Duck Stamp Contest throughout Alabama.
  • Discovering Our Heritage Teacher Training Workshops This workshop offers exciting, innovative methods for integrating environmental education into the classroom through the model educational program Discovering Our Heritage (DOH).
The DOH program utilizes a social studies framework and integrates environmental themes into the teaching of history, geography, science, mathematics, and language arts. Teachers are assisted in assembling otherwise fragmented subject matter into a more meaningful, conceptual understanding of our world.
  • Wild Game Cook-offs Alabama Wildlife Federation chapters host annual Wild Game Cook-Offs across the state. Everyone is invited to participate! The competition is an excellent way for backyard chefs, sportsmen and women, and outdoor enthusiasts to show off their culinary skills and enjoy some good ‘ol fashion fun, fellowship, and fabulous food
