There are 2 of us that have been making our annual pilgrimage to Iowa for a week of Pheasant hunting every year since 1991. We stay 1n a decent hotel on the edge of town and have had great success hunting the public lands. The limit is 3 a day, and 12 in possession and we usually come home with a full cooler. We take 2 English Pointers, and 2-3 English Setters with us. Anyone out there possibly interested in joining this crew? I leave Annapolis on December 5 or 6, pick up the other hunter in Big Pool, MD and arrive at our destination (1250 miles) about 8am the next day. Then we unpack, settle in, go over the maps, change cloths and hunt through the next Friday (legal hours are 8-4:30). We head home on the following Saturday and arrive back in Annapolis about noon Sunday. Total cost with gas, food, beer, licenses, & hotel runs about $800 for the week. We drive out in a Surburban and have a 6 dog trailer. We rotate drivers every 2 hours, and at 50 years old, it's not that bad a ride!

How did your Iowa hunt go? I have been going to Iowa for the past 16 years and this year went to S.D., the guys we hunt with in Iowa kept giving me a very poor pheasant report. The last couple of years the spring has been very poor for the hatch

I went to Iowa this year and we had to work really hard for the birds we got. There was so much crop in the fields that there was no reason for the birds to be anywhere else. What we did see was that numbers seemed to be up from last year. Hopefully, next year the crop will be better timed, the numbers will continue to climb and we'll have a good hunt.
