    Was supposed to go hunting this morning but it's raining cats&dogs, so we will postpone till tomorrow. This raises a question, how does the rain effect your dogs ability to sniff em out?

    In my experience it does not hurt at all. I always feel it washes out all the old scent. What the dog finds is the good fresh stuff. Which I like, I have never had trouble getting birds after a rain......Bob

    I used to think that if the ground was wet from a recent rain or dew that it would improve my dogs chances of catching scent. Apparently it has more to do with the amount of moisture in the air that will carry the scent more than the ground. So I'm not sure I would venture out when the rain is heavy, but a light rain should help with your dogs ability to hunt.

    In my limited experience with my dog, I have had my most successful hunts either while it was raining or soon after it rained. in fact, last Friday evening it was raining fairly hard and I had my best day -- 7 quail in just over an hour or so. Could be a coincidence, but I really don't believe so.

    I agree Chad, many of my best days have been a rainy days. I think the wet feathers give off more scent and make the birds really stand out for the dogs. Just think of how your dog smells when it is wet. I think the same holds true for birds......Bob

    The best quail hunting day I ever had was in the rain.  It did not have any effect on my Brittany.
