It's been years since I've fired a shot triggered by adrenaline and drumming wings - kids, career, etc. have pre-empted forays to the field. I'm posting this query to ask if there is an outfit in Western Washington or just east of the Cascades that offers a safe venue to exercise a green english setter and 7 year old boy. Specifically, I'd like to have some birds planted so the dog has a chance to warm-up to the idea (the dog hasn't hunted in 5 years - just stalks/sets pigeons on neighborhood walks), and the kids can see how the mechanics of bird hunting works - all in a fairly predictable scenario.<!--EndFragment-->

Can anyone suggest a bird ranch or other venue in Western WA or just east of the Cascades? Thanks!

 Thanks for the warm welcome 'Beans. I grew up in the mid-Willamette Valley in the '70's and spent a lot of great years hunting rye grass fields and river systems. It's a shame to have a hunting dog with good instincts relegated to snarfling the kid's breakfast crumbs. Living in Seattle is a tough place to be if you're a sportsman. I'd like to "un-urbanize" my sprouts by exposing them to the field/nature and teaching them gun safety so they'll be ready to actually hunt in a few more years.

I can recommend Cooke Canyon Hunt Club in Ellensburg, WA.  They have a website.  Great people, they love dogs and will work with you on training yours.  No license needed.
