I have been looking at tiring to find a grouse or two in west Virginia but have had a hard time deciding were to start. Is there anyone out there willing to give up some good areas for an out of stator to try. Better still I am looking for someone to hunt with, my partner past two years ago, so I have been lone hunter. I walk behind two GSP's that I hunt on a game farm in N.C. I use them for Quail, Duck and grouse when I can.

    Dave,

Been out of it for some time, but am back. Getting things together to go up to New York to see about a grouse or two. Still looking into West Virginia to do same but have not made it yet. Hope to check it out last part of Nov. You said you are just getting into with a GSP, how old is dog? I walk behind two myself and have for about 20 years. Good luck this season.

Grouse is the reason we call it hunting instead of killing.

Sorry it took so long to circle back. I took a few days in North Dakota with a buddy. I've never been a huge waterfowler but the shooting up there is really something.

My dog is 10 months old, he's super energetic and seems really birdy. We've done a lot of yard work and he pointed a few pheasants and chukkar at a local preserve.

I went up to the Sleepy Creek WMA on opening day. I didn't flush a bird, but the dog went on two solid points. I'm going back to check it out next week. I've read they are doing a lot of Grouse management there. Also plan to visit the areas around Dolly Sods. I've hiked and camped there since I was a kid- also supposed to hold some birds.

Some upbeat news in an article I read...
