Need help training a german shorthair to point

    I have a 6 month old german shorthair. I have tried a wing on a fishing pole but she just wants to attack it, there is no slowing her down. I have tried it for over a hour at a time in hopes she will get tired and try to point but nothing. Does anyone have any ideas on how or what to do?? please help

    She is old enough to start some formal training. It sounds like she has the prey drive, now it just needs to be channeled. A chain gang might help or a short time on a whoa post might start to do the trick.

    You know I've been reading around about this and since there isn't an answer I've found I'll throw this out there: you can find dog trainers online for hire for a day. A friend told me about some Dallas contractors that he uses as dog trainers for all of his dogs. I think you can search their reviews, too. Wouldn't want anyone but a pro to train your dog, right?

    Is your only problem that she doesn't want to point? I mean, will she come when called? Have you started any other training? Has she been in contact with birds at all? Where do you live?
