||In 2008, the Snake Den Lodge began offering Preserve hunts in addition to our regular season hunts. This provides both the Lodge and our hunters some flexibility and opportunity in planning their trip. The Snake Den Lodge will be able to book pheasant hunts approximately six weeks prior to the traditional opener and long after the regular season has closed. The idea is to allow us an expanded calendar to book some of the groups that wanted to hunt with us but could not find a spot.
As most of you know, it had become almost impossible to find a spot during the regular season where we had an opening at the lodge. What will the difference be between what we have had for the past several years and the new hunts???? If we do it right, you will not be able to tell the difference. The State says we can start earlier in the day, shoot more birds, and that we have to release one bird for every one we kill. If we limit the groups and limit the number of birds each group kills, the birds on the preserve will be no different than the birds anywhere else. The Snake Den package includes 4 birds/day, but the state law allows up to 15 additional rooster pheasants per day. In the past, clients have hunted the Preserve exclusively, used it as another opportunity for additional hunts during the regular season, and traded regular season hunts for preserve hunts to accommodate their departure and arrival schedules.
The Preserve consists of nearly 800 acres of food plots, grass, trees, cattails, and mixed farm-ground, along with two dams containing, bass, bluegills, and perch. The Preserve season runs from September 1 through March 31. The first and second videos available on this web page were shot on the land in February after the 2007 season and prior to the 2008 hatch. Things continue to improve and are shaping up to be fantastic for the future.
