CHANGE IN UPLAND GAME SEASON OPENER NOT APPROVED
A proposal that would have opened the quail season one week earlier in southern Nevada was not adopted by the Nevada Board of Wildlife Commissioners during their meeting last weekend in Hawthorne.
An item on the agenda sought to open the quail hunting season on Saturday, Oct. 2, rather than Saturday, Oct. 9, in Clark, Lincoln and southern Nye counties. The item was added to the agenda at the request of bird hunters who sought the earlier season start.
The agenda item sought only to have quail start earlier and not chukar partridge, another popular game bird. Since chukar was not officially listed as part of the agenda, commissioners could not take action on moving up the start of the chukar season. Because of this, the proposal to move the season forward for quail alone was not approved.
