It’s the time of year again to think about fall hunting preparations.

For Nebraska hunters that means getting ready for the upland bird seasons. The first coming season is the dove hunting season that begins on September 1st, 2012. This is the time of year hunters look forward to but there is some preparation to do as you get yourself ready for a successful season.

Aaron Herschberger writes in the in the Journal Star that there are a few things Nebraska hunters can do to get ready for the season. The first is to hit the range for some practice shooting. There is no better way to prepare for the upcoming dove season that hitting a few clays with some trap and skeet shooting.

It’s common for Nebraska pheasant hunters to hit the field early in the year and miss a few birds. It seems obvious, but is worth nothing that August is a great time of year to take out the shotgun and give it a good pre-season examination. Look your guns over for anything that may have happened since you last cleaned them and put them away. It could have been all the way back last winter when you put the guns away for the year.

August is a good time to make sure all of your hunting gear is ready. Check your hunting apparel to make sure everything is ready to go for the new hunting season. There could have been issues over the winter, spring and summer like rips and tears. Maybe you even outgrew those old hunting clothes. Hopefully that’s not the case, but you never know.

Now is the time to prepare for the new hunting season. Get out there and send a few shots of lead down the trap range. It’s an exciting time of year and you want to be as prepared as possible.  If you haven't booked a hunt so you can get out and enjoy some Nebraska pheasant hunting, now is a good time to do so.
