This is always an exciting time for California bird hunters.
The annual dove season opens in just a couple weeks. For those bird hunting enthusiasts it’s an exciting time. If you’re like the others out there you’re already got the shotguns cleaned and ready to go. There is nothing like putting a bead on that first bird of the year and that adrenaline rush is just around the corner.
The numbers are looking good in
California this season for dove hunters. Both the dove population and the number of hunters are expected to be up from last year. This year the season opens on a Saturday and that means more hunters in the field ready to harvest those first birds of the year.
If the weather is good the fields will be even busier. Plan ahead and plan on having some company out there if you normally hunt in a public area that’s full of good doves and plenty of hunters. It’s best to know where you’re going while trying to carve out your own little spot out there so you can have some comfort while you pursue those birds.
It appears that hotels are already filling up with reservations. That’s a sign that hunters are serious this year about bagging those birds. If you’re behind on your planning and scheduling it’s time to get busy because the others will leave you behind with empty limits if you don’t catch up.
Dove hunting has seen an increase in popularity in the past few years. Parts of the US are seeing more doves and because of the challenge hunters are migrating toward the bird to sharpen their shooting skills and their general hunting skills.
And don’t forget that if you have a son or daughter interested in hunting to take them out on a dove hunt. It’s a great way for kids to learn if they get some action with their parents out in the dove field. It’s a great activity for parents and kids. You’ll be able to enjoy the outdoors and maybe even harvest a few birds.
Just make sure you’re ready because the field will be busy this Dove season in California.
