An article in the Aberdeen News profiled college students at Northern State University regarding their hunting schedules. It turns out the students struggle making time for hunting once they are away in school. Some students have to give in to classes, sports and other requirements during school, but they can still find time to hunt with family and friends during breaks around the holidays.

Other students are more creative with their scheduling. One student in the story set his class schedule so he could go hunting during the best times of the day. That takes dedication.

The article brings up an interesting point about hunting and the busy lives we all lead. Whether it’s school, work or family life we all deal with the issue of finding time to hunt. Because hunting is a passion, though, we always seem to find time.

Some hunters take the approach of using a full week’s worth of vacation to plan an entire trip for hunting. This is common for the out of state hunters that come to South Dakota annually with friends and family. It’s a fun tradition and even residents do the same when they can.

Other hunters, usually the local hunters, pick their spots during the season. One of the big issues is the weather. You never know when a good day will come about so you have to be prepared and as flexible as possible. Unfortunately that’s not always possible with all the other requirements of life.

Pheasant hunting is about enjoying the outdoors and even if we only get a few hours every now and then it’s still worth it to get out there. If you can bring a few friends along with it’s even better.

What do you do during the hunting season to make sure you can get out there and hunt?
