There is a really good series that just started in the Times Record News. The story revolves around a mom that is taking her son pheasant hunting for the first time. It appears to be the first in a series of posts. The next one will come next week when the actual hunt is discussed. This story ends as the two are leaving for the week to hunt pheasants and enjoy the Thanksgiving Week.

The story is one that has probably been in the minority over the years. There are usually plenty of stories involving sons, fathers and grandfathers, but recently women have been getting more involved in hunting of all kinds including pheasant hunting.

There are entire chapters of female pheasant hunters that are growing each year. It’s great to see the sport expanding and growing. There is plenty of room for everybody in the fields.

The story of a mother taking her son out to hunt is a great story. The boy might someday take his wife and his daughter out hunting. Perhaps grandma will even be along for another in a long line of hunts.

Tradition is something that is cherished in hunting. For decades that tradition has been about hunting with the men in the family, but as we grow and prosper we all learn that everybody that’s interested can head out to the field to enjoy hunting.

Families come in many different forms and it’s great that something like pheasant hunting can bring a family together. It’s about making memories, being together and creating traditions that can be repeated for an entire lifetime.

That’s what makes hunting special and it will be interesting to see how this story ends. I’m sure there will plenty to tell from the first time out in the field for the mother and son hunters.
