Part of Coralville Lake Opens to Bow Hunting
Friday, October 01, 2004, 6:25:37 PM

From The KCRG-TV9 Iowa City Newsroom

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has opened a part of Coralville Lake to bow hunters.

Until now, the Squire Point Trail has been closed to hunting. The corps is hoping to thin out the deer herd in the area.

John Castle with the Army Corps of Engineers told TV9, “Its not a matter of doing it for the hunting aspect. One of the things we like about this area is we have not allowed hunting so it will be a totally new situation if we do bring hunting in."

The 75 acre area is an undeveloped recreation area off Dubuque Street.

Hunters must obtain permits from the Iowa D.N.R. as well as a free special permit from the corps of engineers.
