Hunters know that it’s not always about the hunt itself. Most times, it’s about so much more.

It’s about getting out into nature, passing along tradition, experiencing new things, and most importantly, spending time with family, friends and other hunters. Few things bring people together more quickly and more tightly than sharing an interest in such a great sport.

Spending a weekend at a hunting lodge can only enhance this experience, and we’d like to mention a few lodges in South Dakota that caught our eye.

Tumbleweed Lodge

Featured on Sportsman News Magazine in 2012, Tumbleweed Lodge promises its guests the ability to hunt pheasants like people did back in the 1950s—in large numbers! Recently, they have been recognized as one of the “10 Greatest Hunting Lodges in the World” by The Outdoor Channel’s Outdoor’s 10 Best.

With 30 years of experience providing guests with only the best hunting accommodations, it’s hard to argue that Tumbleweed Lodge would be anything but a great hunting experience.

Thunderstik Lodge

At Thunderstik, it’s all about the luxury. They provide anything and everything a hunter could imagine. The lodge itself, which has been around since 1988, overlooks the majestic Missouri River. The truly unique setting, coupled with an inviting atmosphere for both expert and beginner hunters, is what separates it from a lot of other lodges.

Paul Nelson Farm

The Paul Nelson Farm gives new meaning to the term “home away from home.” Folks from all over the world come to the farm to appreciate the beautiful landscape, enjoy the company of others, and of course, participate in the sport they love.

“Come fall, a harvest like no other is found here – that of pheasants, yes, but also that of friendships, borne from the unique spirit of sporting camaraderie.”
