What lessons can people learn while pheasant hunting?

Many hunters learn valuable life lessons from family members.

Dads, moms, grandparents, uncles, aunts, cousins and other close family members and friends help teach the next generation about hunting. New hunters learn how to properly handle and respect firearms.

They learn how to respect wildlife. They learn how to find pheasants while studying the different aspects of nature. It’s been a tradition for generations for each hunter to pass on the skills to the next person in line.

But now students in Nebraska are helping each other learn about hunting.

The group of about 15 to 20 University of Nebraska-Lincoln students call themselves Big Red Pheasants Forever. The group has helped each other learn about Nebraska pheasant hunting. They go over all the ways to handle firearms correctly. They discuss strategies for hunting pheasants.

And they have fun while doing it.

The group has held social events inviting non-members to come along for hunts. It’s been a good way for students to bond and become friends. They’ve been able to grow their self-confidence while enjoying time away from common technologies like computers and smartphones.

The students even hold youth events where they bring along younger kids on certain hunts. It’s a great way for the new hunters to pass on lessons about hunting and life to the next generation.

It’s great to see young hunters getting interested in pheasant hunting. We’ve always known it’s a great way to teach others about life. When kids are getting up before the sun comes up you know that they’re committed to the experience.

It’s obvious these students are learning about more than just hunting. They’re learning valuable things that will help them throughout life.

Hopefully the Big Red Pheasants Forever chapter continues to grow as well as inspire other similar groups around the country.
