Saint Paul, Minn. - November 10th -

Pheasants Forever (PF) and Successful Farming magazine are sponsoring a wild game cooking contest at this year's National Pheasant Fest being held at the Iowa Events Center in Des Moines. The contest will take place on Saturday January 20th, 2007. Successful Farming is a publication of Des Moines' Meredith Corporation.

The contest is open to Iowa residents over the age of 18. Contestants must enter an original recipe in one of seven categories: 1) Pheasant Appetizer, 2) Pheasant Entrée, 3) Other Game Appetizer, 4) Other Game Entrée, 5) Bread, 6) Wild Game Pizza and 7) Jerky. Multiple entries are allowed, but not in the same category, and each recipe must be different and submitted separately for each category.

Recipe entries must be original. Recipes that have been previously published, won another competition/contest, or been used for advertising or promotional purposes are not eligible. Each entry must: (1) include recipe name and the number of servings that the recipe yields, (2) list ingredients with measurements in order of use; (3) include step-by-step preparation and cooking directions, and (4) include: entrant name, age and complete address with zip code, telephone number with area code and e-mail address.

Contest begins November 10, 2006 and ends January 1, 2007. Online entries must be received by 11:59 p.m., on January 1, 2007. Mail entries must be postmarked on or before January 1, 2007 and received by January 4, 2007. Anyone who enters is eligible to present their entry at National Pheasant Fest.

Entrants are required to prepare their recipe for presentation at the National Pheasant Fest. Each entry will be judged in three categories: originality/creativity (25%), taste (50%) and visual appearance (25%). Grand prize, first place, second place, and third place winners will be selected in each category. Winners will have their recipes published in the 25th Anniversary Pheasants Forever Cookbook.

Contestants can enter in two ways. They can mail their entries to:

National Pheasant Fest combines a national consumer show, habitat seminar series, and family event complete with puppies, tractors, shotguns, and art. National Pheasant Fest 2007 promises to be the country's largest event for upland hunters, sport dog owners, and wildlife habitat conservationists.

The third-ever National Pheasant Fest, presented by Cabela's, is taking place January 19th, 20 & 21st, 2007 in Des Moines after previously being held in Bloomington, Minn. (2003) and Omaha, Neb. (2005). Omaha officials estimated that the 24,205 attendees had an economic impact of between $2 and $2.5 million on the Omaha economy in 2005.
