Deleware Hunting & Fishing Seasons announced

Bass: Year-round season for black sea bass except closed Sept. 2-15, Dec. 1-31; year-round season for largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, hybrid striped bass. For striped bass, open year-round but closed in spawning areas during April and May. Daily limit/minimum length: Black sea, 25/12 inches; largemouth, six/12 inches (special restrictions at Andrews Lake, Derby Pond, Hearns Pond; smallmouth, six/none between and including 12 inches and 17 inches, one greater than 17 inches; striped (nontidal), two/15 inches; striped (tidal), two/one fish 24-28 inches, one fish greater than 28 inches; hybrid striped (nontidal), two/15 inches; hybrid striped (tidal), none.

Blue crab: Pots March 1-Nov. 30. Daily limit/minimum length: One bushel and 5 inches (hard), 3.5 inches (soft), 3 inches (peeler), two pots per recreational crabber, name and phone number on float and checked every 72 hours.

Bluefish: Year-round season. Daily limit: 10. No size limit.

Bobwhite quail: Nov. 24-Feb. 7; limit six. Hunters must wear at least 400 square inches of hunter orange material displayed on head, chest and back when hunting during any deer gun season.

Bullfrog: May 1-Sept. 30; limit 24.

Brant (subject to final approval in August): Nov. 22-Jan. 20; limit two.

Clams: Year-round season. Daily limit/minimum size: 100 for residents, 50 for nonresidents/1.5 inches.

Croaker (Atlantic): Year-round season. Daily limit/minimum size: none/8 inches.

Deer: Seasons: Archery: Sept. 1-Jan. 31, 2003; limit 2; hunters may use archery equipment during muzzleloader and shotgun seasons provided they wear at least 400 square inches of hunter-orange material displayed on the head, chest and back. Muzzleloader: Oct. 11-18, Jan. 26-31; limit 2. Shotgun: Nov. 14-22, Jan. 17-24; limit 2. Special shotgun antlerless season, Dec. 13-20; limit 2. Youth day: Nov. 1.

Dove: Sept. 1-20, noon to sunset; Oct. 20-Nov. 1, Dec. 8-Jan. 12, half-hour before sunrise to sunset. Daily limit: 12.

Drum: Black, year-round season. Daily limit/minimum size: none. Red, year-round season. Daily limit/minimum size: five (none longer than 27 inches)/20-27 inches max.

Duck: (60-day season) Oct. 2-5, Nov. 1-11, Nov. 25-Jan. 17, limit six. Youth hunt: Oct. 25.

Eel (American): Year-round season. Daily limit/minimum length: none/6 inches.

Flounder (summer): Year-round season. 31. Daily limit/minimum length: 4/17.5 inches.

Freshwater trout: Season opens first Saturday in April annually. Put-and-take fishery limited to six streams in New Castle County. No fishing permitted in designated streams for preceding two weeks. State trout stamp and regular fishing license required. Daily limit: six, four in restricted streams (those designated as fly fishing only).

Goose, Canada (subject to final approval in August): Resident Canada goose, Sept. 1-15, daily limit five. Migratory Canada goose, Nov. 24-Dec. 6, Dec. 9-Jan. 15, daily limit one. Snow goose: Oct. 1-Nov. 12, Nov. 24-Jan. 16, Jan. 31-March 10 (Mon., Wed., Fri., Sat.); daily limit 15.

Mackerel (Spanish): Year-round season. Daily limit/minimum size: 10/14 inches.

Panfish (bluegill, pumpkinseed, black crappie, white crappie, white perch, yellow perch): Year-round season. Daily limit/minimum size: 50 (maximum 25 per species)/none. White perch (tidal water): Year-round season. Daily limit/minimum size: none/8 inches.

Pheasant (ring-necked): Nov. 24-Jan. 16; male only; limit two. Hunters must wear at least 400 square inches of hunter orange material displayed on head, chest and back when hunting during any deer gun season.

Rabbit: Nov. 24-Feb. 7; limit four. Hunters must wear at least 400 square inches of hunter-orange material displayed on head, chest and back when hunting during any deer gun season.

Raccoon, opossum: Sept. 1-Oct. 10 (chase), Oct. 19-31 (chase), Nov. 1-13 and Nov. 23-Feb. 28, March 1-31 (chase). No limit; closed during shotgun and muzzleloader deer seasons.

Raccoon, opossum, muskrat, mink, otter (fur-bearer trapping seasons): New Castle County: Dec. 1-March 10; closes March 20 on embanked meadows. Kent, Sussex counties: Dec. 15-March 15.

Rails: Sept. 1-Nov. 9. Clapper and King rails, bag limit 10. Sora and Virginia bag limit 25.

Red fox: Oct. 1 to April 30 chase only, except closed during firearms deer seasons. Special hunt zone (limit 4) - New Castle County south of the C&D Canal and Duck Creek Hundred in Kent County, Nov. 1-Dec. 31 (not including firearms seasons for deer). Possession of a red fox or red fox hide is illegal, regardless of origin.

Scup: State waters, year-round; federal waters (Atlantic Ocean beyond 3 miles from Del. shore); daily limit/minimum length: (state) 50/8 inches, (federal) 20/10 inches.

Shad: Closed in Nanticoke River and its tributaries; year-round season elsewhere. Daily limit/minimum size: 10/none.

Shark: Minimum length 54 inches; limit one per vessel per day; season closed for sand tiger, great white and dusky sharks.

Snapping turtle: June 15-May 15; no limit; minimum length is 8 inches on the curvature of the top shell.

Snipe: Nov. 24-Jan. 31. Daily limit eight/possession limit 16.

Sea trout (spotted): Year-round season. Daily limit/minimum size: none/12 inches.

Squirrel: Sept. 13-Oct. 10, Oct. 20-Nov. 13; Nov. 24-Dec. 12, Dec. 22-Jan. 16. Daily limit: four. Closed during firearms deer seasons.

Tautog: Oct. 1-Aug. 31, daily limit/minimum length: 10/14 (except April 1-June 30, daily limit/minimum length: 3/15 inches). Closed Sept. 1-28.

Teal: Sept. 5-14, limit 4 per day; limited to area east of U.S. 13 and 113 from C&D Canal to Lewes.

Weakfish (trout): Year-round season. Daily limit/minimum length: 8/13 inches.

Wild turkey: April 19-May 8. Private land permits can be used the entire season and for any zone open to turkey hunting. Public land permits can be used only on the property for which they are issued. Bag limit: one per year.
