Changes announced for Oregon's 2004, 2005 hunting seasons

BAKER CITY, ORE. - The Oregon Fish and Wildlife Commission will decrease the number of tags available for this fall's deer and elk hunts by eleven percent.
That is because the animals are declining in some areas due to disease, habitat changes and predators.

However, the commission plans to boost tags for bighorn sheep, pronghorn, black bear and mountain goat by four percent.

It has also decided to allow a controlled hunt on Columbian white-tailed deer in southwest Oregon next year.

The commission plans to authorize a pronghorn auction tag. And it will expand hunting opportunities for spring bear, cougar, bighorn sheep and Rocky Mountain goat.
