The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) will post online maps to more than 6,400 acres of forestland open to public hunting under conservation easements. Located in Cass, Crow Wing and Itasca counties, these lands are protected from development but open to public hunting, a variety of outdoor activities and timber production.

“Statewide about 1 million acres of forest owned by corporations and trusts are at risk of being sold,” said Cynthia Osmundson, DNR forest wildlife program leader. “Many of these lands were previously open to public hunting and are being lost to development and private lease programs.”

Through the use of conservation easements, the Minnesota Forest Legacy Program, a partnership between federal, state and private organizations, keeps forestlands intact and open to public hunting while maintaining timber production.
