Officials say ring-necked pheasant populations are healthy

Associated Press

BISMARCK, N.D. - Wildlife officials say results of a spring crowing count indicate a healthy population of ring-necked pheasants in North Dakota.

The survey involves counts of crowing pheasants. It is not a measure of the entire population, but indicates population trends, said Stan Kohn, upland game biologist with the state Game and Fish Department.

"Crow count numbers are up slightly in the central portion of the state, and are up more than 35 percent in the south," Kohn said.

"At this point it appears that with average reproduction, our prehunt pheasant population will show an increase over 2003," he said.
