Iowa Youth Encouraged to Compete in Pheasant Fest Art Contest

Pheasants Forever (PF) is sponsoring the 2007 Youth Wildlife Art Contest at this year's National Pheasant Fest presented by Cabela's. Iowa youth ages 4 to 18 are eligible to participate in the contest, which will award three talented kids national recognition in PF's Upland Tales magazine. Each winner will also be recognized at the Fest being held at the Iowa Events Center in Des Moines on January 19, 20, & 21, 2007.
Art entries must be flat art media and may include oil, watercolors, pen & ink, pencil, tempera, charcoal or crayon. Participants will be divided into three age categories: 4-6, 7-12, and 13-18. This year's contest theme is North American wildlife in its natural environment. The contest is FREE to enter.
On the back of the original entries or on an attached note card, participants must include: 1) first and last name; 2) age; 3) grade; 4) address and phone number; 5) teacher's full name; 6) school name; 7) school address and phone number, if applicable. Kids can enter through other youth organizations or venues, and simply need to list an adult's name in place of their teacher's name and their organization in place of their school information. Contest ends January 11, 2007. All entries received after the deadline will not qualify. Everyone who enters the contest will receive a complimentary youth ticket to the 2007 National Pheasant Fest. Teachers who have a student enter will also receive a complimentary ticket.
A panel of Pheasants Forever staff will name a "Champion Artist" in each of the three age categories. First place winners of each age group will receive: $100 cash; artwork published in Upland Tales; one-year membership to PF's Ringnecks youth program, and magazine subscription for Upland Tales; an illustrated copy of Aldo Leopold's A Sand County Almanac, donated by the Leopold Education Project; and a framed and signed wildlife print donated by Wild Wings LLC. First and second runners-up will receive: Ringnecks t-shirt; Ringnecks water bottle; and one-year membership to the Ringnecks program and Upland Tales subscription. All entries will be displayed at the National Pheasant Fest.
All winners and runners-up will be notified by phone and will receive three complimentary tickets to the National Pheasant Fest. Entered artwork must be picked up at Pheasant Fest by 2 p.m. on Sunday, January 21st. Those pieces not claimed will become the property of Pheasants Forever. National Pheasant Fest presented by Cabela's, combines a national consumer show, habitat seminar series, and family event complete with puppies, tractors, shotguns, and art. National Pheasant Fest 2007 promises to be the country's largest event for upland farmers, sport dog owners, and wildlife habitat conservationists. The third-ever Fest is taking place January 19, 20 & 21, 2007 in Des Moines after previously being held in Bloomington, Minn. (2003) and Omaha, Neb. (2005). Omaha officials estimated that the 24,205 attendees had an economic impact of between $2 and $2.5 million on the Omaha economy in 2005.
Pheasants Forever is a non-profit conservation organization dedicated to the protection and enhancement of quail and other wildlife populations in North America through habitat improvement, land management, public awareness, and education. Such efforts benefit landowners and wildlife alike.
