Thousands Apply To Hunt In Buffalo River Country

The hunt will be Sept. 20-24 and Dec. 6-10, and the permits are free.
Winners were drawn Saturday during the annual Buffalo River Elk Festival at Jasper. Several thousand hunters applied for the permits.
The Elk Foundation has participated for years in elk habitat work in Arkansas as a partner of the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission and the Buffalo National River of the U.S. Park Service. The foundation returns 85 percent of the money raised in the permit auctions to Arkansas for elk program work.
