Facts and figures about deer hunting in Michigan:

--Minimum age for hunting deer with bow and arrow is 12; for hunting with firearm it's 14.

--Firearm season starts Monday, ends Nov. 30. Archery season, which began Oct. 1 but stops during firearm season, resumes Dec. 1 and ends Jan. 2. Muzzleloading season Dec. 4-12 in Upper Peninsula and Dec. 10-19 in Lower Peninsula.

--Archery, firearm license costs $14 each.

--Hunters can take up to two bucks per season, depending on licenses obtained and subject to rack size rules.

--Michigan deer herd estimated at 1.75 million. About 500,000 expected to be killed during hunt, equaling roughly the entire population of 1970.

--About 775,000 people expected to buy deer hunting licenses.

--Southern Michigan deer herd now largest in state. DNR issuing extra licenses to hunt antlerless deer on private lands there.
