Groundbreaking for Guntersville Lodge August 26

A groundbreaking for construction at Guntersville State Park Lodge will take place Thursday, August 26 at 2 p.m. near the lodge entrance. The lodge and restaurant have been closed for several months in preparation for renovations. Officials from the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources will be on site for the groundbreaking. Other state, county and local officials as well as business, civic and community leaders are expected to attend.
The renovation project includes refurbishing 100 motel rooms and expanding and modernizing the meeting facilities. The park’s restaurant is also being renovated. The building that houses the lodge and restaurant overlooks scenic Lake Guntersville, which is a popular destination for families, groups and anglers.
While the lodge is being renovated, the cabins, chalets, campgrounds, golf course, and beach remain open for visitors. The park has 16 lake view cottages with capacities of one to eight people and 18 chalets for one to six people. All are set up for light housekeeping. The chalets are equipped with fireplaces, televisions and telephones.
The campground includes 364 improved sites, and primitive camping is also available. A camp store, boat dock, tennis courts, and laundry are nearby. Lake Guntersville State Park also offers an 18-hole golf course, boating, fishing, picnicking and nature trails. Groups can still reserve one of the picnic pavilions for outdoor gatherings.
