Dove, quail populations thriving in central Arizona

Compiled from news sources
Jun. 17, 2004 12:00 AM

Conditions in central Arizona are favorable for dove and quail hunting when the general seasons open Sept. 1 and Oct. 8, respectively.

"The quail habitat in the central part of the state, especially in places such as the Tonto Basin and even the Verde Valley, has been looking green and lush," said Mike Rabe, small-game biologist for the Arizona Game and Fish Department. "The seed and insect production have been terrific, which should translate into good numbers of Gambel's quail and mourning doves."

Stocking schedule
The following locations were scheduled to be stocked with rainbow trout this week: Ashurst, Black River (East and West forks), Canyon Creek, Christopher Creek, Crescent, Fain, Fool's Hollow, Haigler, Lower Colorado River (at Greer and Sheep's Crossing), Lower Salt River, Lynx, Mingus, Oak Creek, Riggs Flat, Silver Creek, Tonto Creek, Whitehorse, Willow Springs and Woods Canyon.
