Pheasants Forever announces the completion of 1 million acres of habitat accomplishments in Iowa since the first Iowa chapter formed in 1984. With Pheasants Forever's marquee event, National Pheasant Fest 2010, in Des Moines this weekend, "PF" members and sponsors will celebrate the 1,000,000 acres of habitat work accomplished by Pheasants Forever in the state. National Pheasant Fest is this Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Iowa Events Center in Des Moines.

How? By purchasing your ticket for the Iowa Build a Wildlife Area gun raffle sponsored by the Iowa Pheasants Forever State Council. Fifty-two brand new firearms – total value of $78,000 - will be raffled off, with 100 percent of the proceeds going to purchasing new public hunting and recreation areas in Iowa.

Recent snowfalls have resulted in a deep blanket of crusty snow that is significantly limiting pheasants’ access to waste grain throughout much of their range in Minnesota, according to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR). Providing feed for pheasants during such conditions can increase their chances of survival.

Naturally, many hunters and conservationists have found cause for concern regarding ring-necked pheasants' ability to survive, and ask "Should we be feeding pheasants?" With Kansas annually ranking in the top three states in the nation for pheasant hunting, hunters often ask why this popular game bird cannot be found in southeast Kansas. Like all wildlife, pheasants need four things to survive: food, water, cover, and space. If these things are not present in the proper mix for an individual species, it will not thrive. But sometimes it can be more complicated than that.

Pheasants Forever and Cabela's In Dundee Michigan invite you to attend a free habitat expo. The expo is to be held August 8th at Cabela's Dundee store from 10AM - 4PM. The event will will include habitat and dog training seminars and great youth activities, to be followed by a banquet and awards ceremony to recognize volunteers from across the state for their contributions to PF.

Several conservation partners including Pheasants Forever have acquired a 204 acre parcel of restored wetlands and grasslands in St. Croix County, Wisconsin. According to a press release by Pheasants Forever the land could be open to public hunting by the fall of 2009.
