Hunters were notified by the Wildlife Department of the possibility of harvesting banded quail on several western Oklahoma WMAs this season and were asked to report banded birds if they harvested one. By doing so, biologists can keep tabs on the mortality of the sampled birds. In addition to the birds that were banded and released, close to 75 others were trapped and sent to research facilities for extensive studies.

Colorado pheasant and quail hunters will have access to an additional 45,000 acres of private lands thanks to Colorado Parks and Wildlife and a federal grant program to encourage landowners to allow hunting. The new acreage means more than 260,000 acres are available to upland bird hunters through the state's Walk-In Access program this year.

Kansas Sam Governor Brownback hosted the inaugural Kansas Governor’s Ringneck Classic on Nov. 18-20 in Oakley. Approximately 68 hunters joined the Governor for the hunt.
