| Imagine, 10,000 acres of mixed timber, green fields, pastures, and meadows. Flocks with as many as 50 turkeys have been seen this winter. That can only mean one thing: A great spring! Leave with your guide for a morning hunt. Your guide can call for you, help you call, or simply set you up on a gobbler. You decide. That afternoon hunt "self-guided". Spot flocks in the fields and stalk in close enough to call. Or cruise the ridges and try for a "shock gobble". If you are good enough and lucky enough, you may bag one for the record books.Or just relax at the lodge, or wrestle the catfish, bass, and bream in the lodge lake. Either way, a spring afternoon at the Alabama River Lodge is sure to be enjoyable. |

The Eastern Wild Turkey is perhaps one of the most elusive animals and exciting animals in North America to hunt. Yellow Creek Ranch owners realize the Wild Turkey Hunting is (as the locals say) a religion, not just a sport and has taken great efforts to have one of best areas to hunt. Locals say a Wild Turkey can see you blink your eye at 40 yards. Whether this is true or not, they do have very sharp eyesite. If you have ever hunted the Wild Turkey on a regular basis, then you too know how thrilling this can be.
Our game management plan includes the planting of Chufas, Crimson Clover, Corn, Millet and Grain Sorghum to enhance the habitat for the Wild Turkey. Our forrests are populated heavily with oaks and even 'Gobbler Sawtooth Oaks' to provide natural food. Yellow Creek Ranch offers access to prime turkey hunting areas. Guides are provided for those who wish to experience this sport for the first time or enhance their skills. Our guides are some of the best available. |

On March 20th of each year, spring gobbler season begins. Hawkins Ridge Lodge has the very best to offer in wild turkey hunting. Our lodge takes a limited number of hunters so each hunter will have access to hunt thousands of acres solely to themselves. When you arrive, we will have an old Tom located for you. Due to our abundance of long-bearded gobblers, we allow you to take two turkeys per hunt. In the morning you will have the opportunity to work a gobbling bird and after lunch you will be able to hunt on food plots and in blinds. You can call your own gobbler or have an experienced guide with you. Our success ratio for the past several years has been 90% or better.
Hawkins Ridge Lodge is located on 16,000 acres of land, much of which has been owned and farmed by our family for 100 years. This land is now carefully managed exclusively for this production of trophy game. We are located 12 miles southwest of Eufaula, Alabama and 10 miles west of beautiful Lake Eufaula. We are located 5 miles from the Barbour County Wildlife Management Area and Refuge. This refuge has long been noted for the heavier weights and larger racks of Alabama's deer population and is the showcase of all Alabama's management areas. Alabama is a hunter's paradise, having the second largest deer and turkey populations in the country. While you are hunting at Hawkins Ridge Lodge you will have the opportunity to hunt out of some 475 shooting houses, tree stands and blinds that are located on or near 250 food plots. The combination of limited hunting pressure and isolation make the steep pine ridges, oak flats and dense beaver pond swamps of Hawkins Ridge lodge an excellent place for big racked bucks, and long bearded gobblers to mature.

Turkey hunts in prime Alabama habitat. Spotting turkey at Pa-Ko Plantation during March and April is no problem. Our founder, Paul Messham, was instrumental in returning wild turkey to southern Alabama. Paul’s proprietary method of raising and releasing thousands of birds without allowing them to even see a human is still in use—and producing trophy Toms—to this day.
Wild turkey love Pa-Ko’s range of timber, ravines, and the varied crops we plant, such as chufa, corn, millet and green cover. Is it any wonder our gobblers can sport 9-inch beards?
Guided three-day turkey hunts typically begin before sunrise, break for a hearty noon brunch, and resume around 4:00 p.m. Hunters are permitted to take up to two gobblers per three-day hunt. |

Spring turkey hunting at White Oak may become addictive. Many turkey hunters have fallen prey to this addiction and can't resist the allure of Spring and the challenge of calling in yet another big gobbler. While on a three or four day turkey hunt, turkey hunters may take two gobblers. Alabama allows only one gobbler each day per turkey hunter. Absolutely NO jakes or hens are harvested. Your turkey hunting package includes all meals, lodging, daily maid service, one on one guides, transportation and game preparation. All of our guides are experienced woodsmen and understand the lay of the White Oak land. They will get you in the vicinity of a gobbler and then call it in for you. If you prefer, of course, you may do your own turkey calling.
There are typically two turkey hunts per day; white oak offers turkey hunts seven days a week, although this varies with each hunter and each bird. Turkey hunters are in the woods well before dawn to listen for the first turkey gobble and usually return before noon, although that could vary depending on the turkey. As each turkey hunter returns to the lodge with either a good turkey or a good turkey hunting story, a warm, delicious meal will be offered. After a well deserved rest, turkey hunters return to the woods for an afternoon turkey hunt. If a turkey was harvested during the morning turkey hunt, there is always the opportunity to roost a turkey for the next morning's turkey hunt or fish for largemouth Florida bass and bream in the 30+ acres of well-stocked lakes and ponds.

The 3,400 acre Wilkes Creek plantation is located in the heartland of southern farm plantations and fertile bottomlands of the Tombigbee River. You roost the birds late one spring evening in a “scaly bark” river hickory down in the lower 40 swamp. After a dinner of fried quail and all the fixings, you bed down for an early rise to hunt the big gobbler you roosted the night before. Beep, beep, beep, beep…the alarm softly signals it’s 4:30 a.m. and time to rise, dress, grab a cup of coffee and take to the woods. The guide drops you off and you stalk in to within 75 yards of the roost tree.
You ever so gently ease into position and rest your back against an old water oak you had spotted the previous afternoon. It’s about to break day and you can begin to make out shapes and hear the “wake up” calls of the woods. Almost like clockwork you hear the “whoop whoop” sounds of the turkeys flying down from their roost.
Yelp, yelp, puurrrr, you begin to mouth call to the old gobbler. Cluck, cluck, cluck, puurrr. The morning stillness is rattled by the rapid fire gobble of old tom and it sounds like he’s headed your way – at a fast pace. Lifting your shotgun to your knee you scan the breaks in the palmetto in front of you and strain to see any movement. Gobble, gobble, gobble…”on my gosh, there’s a gobbler off to my right moving in and he’s right on top of me. Now I’m working two birds and …”
This face paced action is business as usual at a Wilkes Creek turkey hunt. Year round management of bird habitat encourages an excellent hatch out that is monitored annually by a wildlife biologist. Continued “best practices management” of the land for turkeys that includes employing the newest proven techniques for improved health are regularly employed. For the guaranteed hunt of a lifetime and more fun than watching drunk monkeys play marbles, contact Wilkes Creek Plantation today to book your hunt. |
