Pheasant hunting remains a popular pastime in Pennsylvania.

Demand from seasoned hunters and young hunters too has led the Pennsylvania Game Commission to find ways to increase its production of pheasants for the 2012 season. That’s good news for hunters that enjoy seeking out and hunting the ringneck pheasant.

In preparation for the upcoming season the Pennsylvania Game Commission is giving fully guided tours of its game farms. It’s a great way for the public to get a view of the entire process. It’s a learning experience for the hunters and landowners and even those in the general public too.

The purpose of the farms and the tours is to educate the public about how the farms operate and how they can help the overall enjoyment of life in the state. Hunting numbers have slowed in recent years and it’s important to keep traditional hunters in the field while getting the young folks interested in the sport of pheasant and upland bird hunting so the traditions can be passed on to the future.

Budget cuts have made things difficult in the state for the Game Commission, but demand for pheasants and the work of individuals in the Commission has led to an increase in the birds for this upcoming year. Hunters should find more birds than ever this year in Pennsylvania. It was a mild winter and conditions have remained pretty good throughout the summer allowing the release of the birds to be strong and in good shape for those looking for exciting action this year.

There is much to be excited about if you’re planning on pheasant hunting in Pennsylvania or in surrounding states. It’s been a good year with the weather and the demand appears to remain or even be picking up in some areas of the nation. People still love the excitement of pheasant hunting and that bodes well because the higher the demand is the better the hunting will be for everybody.
