Pheasant season is tentatively scheduled to open on October 12th, 2013 in North Dakota. The method used to determine the opening of the pheasant season is the second Saturday in October.

Those looking to get a jump on things this year will start right away with their plans. There is no need to wait for the official date since the opening is always on the same Saturday each fall.

However, the announcement of the opener is a great reminder to start thinking ahead. Now is the time to make plans for your opening weekend trip. Even if you’re not planning a weekend for the opener it’s a good time to round up your hunting party and get everybody on the same page for next season’s trip.

If you have more than just a few people that go on annual hunting excursions you know it can be difficult to get everybody on the same page. Schedules are busy these days so planning ahead now will ensure the hunting event is on the calendar before other items take its place.

To get yourself revved up for the upcoming season you could take some time this spring to go check out the areas where you plan to hunt. It’s a great time to get back out in the fields after the cold of winter has gone.

It’s also a great time to take young and new hunters out in the field. You can get them excited about their upcoming season. There is nothing better than seeing all the spring birds going out and flying around during the warm first few weeks of spring.

It’s important to get those new hunters out in the field. The hunting population typically trends toward older generations these days and if nobody is out there to teach young hunters the number of hunters will decrease in the coming decades.

The economy in North Dakota could suffer as a result. The hunting, fishing and outdoor economy in the state is important and accounts for more than most people realize.

Use the announcement of the opening day for the 2013 North Dakota pheasant season to get your plans lined up and when you’re done go out there with a new hunter and check out the wildlife.

It’s a great way to end winter and get ready for spring.
