When it comes to the outdoors, hunting and fishing there is always a focus on conservation.

Recently, we discussed the importance of making changes to the South Dakota area in regards to the CRP programs. There have been increases in the last few years to get back to the CRP movement.

In recent years the opportunity for landowners has been in crops especially in corn and beans. There has also been opportunity in oil and gas reserves.

But now the push is back on the future of outdoor activities including pheasant hunting.

Just announced by The South Dakota Wildlife Federation Youth Conservation Group is a new grant to get kids more involved in conservation.

The program is a camp for the kids and it’s a great way for the kids to get exposure to the outdoors and basic conservation techniques and practices.

What’s great about the program is that participants will learn all aspects of spending time outdoors. They’ll learn how to use GPS so they can navigate. They’ll learn how to hike and how to hunt and fish.

It’s a great opportunity to get kids back outside where they can learn some of life’s most important lessons.

So much of the South Dakota economy depends on a strong hunting industry especially pheasant hunting. It’s important to keep the next generation interested in the outdoors especially the outdoors that is right in their backyard.

Everything is lining up for a great future of hunting and fishing in South Dakota. Grants and programs like the one above are ways to get kids involved in timeless activities like pheasant hunting.
