From the 14 February until the 16 February, Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever hosted its annual National Pheasant Fest and Quail Classic event in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. This was the first time that the city has had the honour of hosting the largest US event for upland hunters, wildlife habitat conservationists and bird dog owners.

In February 2012, the event was attended by 28,855 when it was hosted in Minneapolis.

Howard Vincent, the president and CEO of Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever, highlighted that the state has a rich conservation history and Pheasants Forever has a large presence in the area and nearby states. Therefore, the event can be easily attended by members for its annual celebration.

In Wisconsin alone there are 33 Pheasant Forever chapters and 790,000 licensed hunters. Only Minnesota sends more non-resident upland hunters to the Dakotas, the country’s Pheasant hunting capital.

During the event there was a number of seminars that catered to a wide variety of interests. There was a Habitat stage a Bird Dog Bonanza Stage and a Wild Game Cooking Stage.

Numerous presentations were also available including "The Food Plot Establishment and Management for White-tailed Deer and Pheasants, Best Practices" and "Pheasant Management".

Authors such as Hank Shaw and Tovar Cerruli were present on the cooking stage. Sessions from these presenters and others will include "Getting the Most of Your Upland Birds for the Table," "Preparing Wild Game from the Tailgate" and "The Mindful Carnivore - A Vegetarian's Hunt for Sustenance."

Those interested in the dog stage were treated to presentations including basic obedience and tracking your dog with GPS. There will also be a question and answer session with a panel of experts.

Other notable inclusions in the show will be puppies, tractors, shotguns and even art.

The event was open to the public and was a big draw for people throughout the Midwest and beyond.

Were you able to attend the event this year?
