Those hunters who are looking to go to Penns Wood, PA this year have been treated with the release of the Hunting and Trapping dates with this year’s possession limits. Therefore hunters now have plenty of time to place their holiday requests with their places of work, to make the best of the opportunities.
Hunters will probably realize that many of the dates released are later than normal due to Thanksgiving sliding back towards the end of November.
Generally there are few changes for Pennsylvania Pheasant hunters with those who are significantly affected being Turkey and bear hunters who have a shorter and longer hunting period respectively.
Pheasant hunters will only be allowed to take cockbirds from Wildlife Management Units (WMUs) 2A, 2C, 4C, 4E, 5A and 5B. Any bird may be taken from all the other WMUs.
The earliest hunting date has been given as October 25, with that season finishing on November 29. There will be two other season openings, one December 15 to 24 and December 26 to February 21, 2015.
Hunters will be allowed to take two birds daily and have no more than 6 in possession.
Those junior hunters who are eligible will have special opportunities between October 11 to 18 with a daily limit of 2 and 6 in possession.
There will be no open season for pheasants in any of the WMU or Wild Pheasant Recovery Areas where 300 birds are being transferred to the four sites with permission of a Montana Native American tribe from their reserve.
South Dakota used to source birds for this area – but due to the recent decline has been reluctant to provide any birds. Hopefully this will help to sustain their own populations so they can participate in later bird relocations.
Are you excited about this year’s hunting opportunities?
Will you be staying in South Dakota or looking elsewhere?
