DNR Announces Hunting Dates At Wye Island N.R.M.A.
Archery and muzzleloader deer hunts will be by permit only

WYE ISLAND NRMA - Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) State Forest and Park Service today announced the dates for archery and muzzleloader deer hunts at Wye Island Natural Resources Management Area (N.R.M.A.). As in the past, all hunts will be by permit only.

This year's dates for archery hunts are from Oct. 2-23 and Nov. 2-24. The dates are Tuesday through Saturday only – Sundays and Mondays are excluded. All archery permits will be issued daily on a first-come first-served basis. Permits will be limited to 25 archery deer hunters per day. Hunters must sign-in and out using the self-registration system at the Wye Island check-in station.

All deer harvested at Wye Island as part of the archery hunt will be considered part of the daily and season bag limit. All deer harvested must be checked-in either at Wye Island NRMA or a deer checking station in Queen Anne’s County. All pertinent laws and regulations apply. Consult the 2004-05 Guide to Hunting and Trapping in Maryland ( for details.

Bag limits for the Wye Island archery hunts follow the state guidelines with the following exception - An archery hunter may hunt for and harvest antlered deer only if they have already harvested an antlerless deer in Region "B" for the 2004-05 bow season. Bowhunters must take two (2) antlerless deer before they can take a second antlered deer.

Muzzleloading deer hunts by permit only will be held Oct. 27-30, 2004. Some important dates for hunters to be aware of are:

Wednesday, Oct. 27, the muzzleloader hunt will be limited to “Physically Challenged Hunters”
Thursday, Oct. 28, the muzzleloader hunt will be a “Becoming an Outdoors-Woman Hunt”
Friday, Oct. 29, the muzzleloader will be open to all eligible hunters
Saturday, Oct. 30, the muzzleloader hunt will be limited to “Junior Hunters”
Muzzleloader applications for these four special hunts must be received at Wye Island by the close of business (4:30 p.m.) on Sept. 17, 2004. Permits will be selected by random drawing on Sept. 20, 2004, at 2 p.m.

A $5 non-refundable service charge must accompany each muzzleloader application. One application per hunter with a maximum of three applications per group hunt – staple all group applications together. Qualified hunters can only apply for one special hunt.

Applications are available in the Guide to Hunting and Trapping Guide 2004-05, or to receive an application send a SELF-ADDRESSED, STAMPED ENVELOPE to Wye Island N.R.M.A., 632 Wye Island Road, Queenstown, MD 21658.
