Kansas is pleased to announce that this year they will re-run last season’s highly successful pheasant hunting competition. During the upcoming season, 250 pheasants will be banded and released in Ford County, Dodge City, Finney County, Garden City, Stevens County and other locations.

Hunters who are able to bag one of the banded pheasants can take the leg band to an approved location to register the bird and claim a prize.

The annual pheasant harvest in Kansas is often one of the highest in the country. This has helped spur a mini economy based on pheasant hunting.

The prizes for bagging one of these special pheasants can range from cash, to one of five grand prizes. Anyone who does register a leg band will be given a Rooster Roundup Hat and a $10 community prize. Then the leg band will be entered into a draw to win a grand prize of $500 in Community Gift Certificate “Bucks”. The draw will be made at the end of the contest.

The contest, known as the Rooster Roundup Pheasant Contest, will run from November 14 to January 31st.

There is no additional cost to enter the contest. Any licensed hunter, over the age of 18, is eligible to claim a prize.

If hunters are unable to find or attend one of the approved locations, there is also the possibility of entering the leg bands via mail. If you are unable to attend and must submit your entry via mail, you are advised to register the letter. You should also include the pheasant leg band, your name, address, copy of a valid hunting license, email and location where the pheasant was shot.

The locations and addresses for the hunt are:

Dodge City Visitors Center, 400 West Wyatt Earp, Dodge City, KS 67801; 620-225-8186.

Finney County Convention and Visitors Bureau, 1513 Fulton Terrace, Garden City, KS 67846; 620-276-0607.
